Thank You

Thank you to everyone who supported the bike ride this past summer. All proceeds were donated to the Warren County Band Program.

On Nov 1, the band, led by Mr. Taylor Whitehead, traveled to the National High School Band Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.

Below is a letter from Mr. Whitehead, thank you for your support.

For the past three months, our students have worked tremendously hard practicing for hours each day after school preparing for football games and competitions.  Since late September, we have traveled throughout North Carolina and Virginia competing five times in preparation for the 2013 High Stepping National Championship. Each time, we returned home victorious, winning 1st Place in our division at each competition. These talented students and their parents sacrificed daily to ensure that we could uphold the legacy of the program and its’ winning tradition.  I often remind my students, that they can accomplish anything that they set their mind to and are willing to work hard enough to get it.

With that being said, it is with much enthusiasm and great excitement that I am pleased to bring back good news from Atlanta, Georgia.

On Friday night, the Warren County High School “Steel Stix” Drumline performed for the Atlanta Hawks vs Toronto Raptors NBA pre-game show as well as captured an unprecedented 7th National Drumline Championship winning for the 5th year in a row. (2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, & 2013)

On Saturday, the Warren County High School “Dynamic Marching Machine” captured their 5th Class A National High Stepping Championship winning for the 3rd year in a row. (2006, 2007, 2011, 2012 & 2013) The Band also captured the following awards on Saturday; Overall Percussion National Champions, Overall Majorette National Champions, Overall Flag Runner-Up, 1st Place Drum Major, 1st Place Percussion, 1st Place Flags, 1st Place General Effect, 1st Place Majorettes, 2nd Place Musicians, 2nd Place Marching & Maneuvering, and 2nd Place Dancers. The band also received the Geraldine E. Carver Spirit Award,(presented to the band with the best overall discipline and spirit throughout the competition weekend.) There were 23 total bands in the competition from across the country.

As we bring another season to an end, I would like to personally thank each of you that have continuously supported us throughout the years with your encouraging words, cheers, fundraising efforts, donations and prayers. We take great pride in our performances as well in representing Warren County Schools.

T. Whitehead
